Therapy professionals are trained in methods of assessing, exploring, and working with the often intense and complex emotions that our clients bring to the therapeutic encounter, and yet many of us in this field do not feel prepared for or know what to do with our own emotional reactions to this work. This training, led by Andy Williams, LCSW, seeks to orient the therapy professional toward their own emotional states, with a particular focus on anxiety and its role in such professional challenges as burnout and compassion fatigue. Participants will review and differentiate the types of anxiety that can arise in anticipation of and during therapeutic encounters, identify contributors to phenomena such as burnout and compassion fatigue that can negatively impact therapeutic outcomes, and learn strategies to help manage and reduce the impact of each type of anxiety while strengthening the therapeutic alliance.
