Your experience of day-to-day life may seem daunting, confusing and overwhelming. The challenges created by this experience are unique and deeply personal to you, affecting your home, work, social, relational, and spiritual lives. Therapy is the journey through which these burdens can be carefully unpacked, examined, and more deeply understood. In this sense, the experience of therapy is like charting a course through uncharted waters with a trusted guide. My role as the therapist is to be that trusted guide.
I earned my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Prior to becoming a therapist, I practiced law for almost 25 years, serving as in-house counsel for two commercial real estate companies. As an attorney and experienced negotiator, I learned the importance of being a good listener and of hearing and understanding the perspectives of others in order to work collaboratively toward a common goal. My legal practice helped me develop skills in critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving, and equipped me to analyze complex situations, empathize with diverse perspectives, and communicate effectively under intense situations and high-pressure circumstances. I learned the power of story, and I deeply value the interpersonal connection of working with clients to help them achieve their goals.
I view each client as having inherent dignity and worth, and I see the clinician’s office as a space for reflection, insight, growth, and change. In therapy, I use a person-centered approach as a foundation rooted in empathy, compassion, and collaboration. I also integrate aspects of other counseling approaches, including psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I work with older adolescents (17+) and adults experiencing issues with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, stress, and life transitions. I also offer counseling for couples navigating challenges with intimacy, connectivity, and communication.
Drawing from my integrated approach to therapy and background as a lawyer, I offer a unique perspective that values both rational analysis and emotional exploration, with the ultimate goal of empowering my clients to navigate life’s challenges by tapping into their inner strengths, cultivating resilience, and working collaboratively on the journey toward the change they want to experience. I'd be privileged to join you on this journey.
